I don’t understand human nature,

If you like someone, tell them. Whats the worse thing that could happen?

If you miss someone, tell them. There is a good chance that they miss you too.

Open up to everyone, it would be a much better place. Repressed emotions are not something you should be doing. It floods out at some point in time, so might as well do it in your own controlled environment so you don’t have a melt down.
