Tonight was run club, and with running 9 miles at a decent pace yesterday I wasn’t sure how it was going to go.
But to start off, a person in our group talked to someone after the race last Saturday and mentioned it and the guy ended up showing up. We(they really, reason soon) caught up to one of his friends while running and they finished up nice and strong.
Since we ran the 9 miles yesterday, we took it a bit slower than the rest of the group. Around mile 2 I had some stomach issues and actually had to stop at Allisons old work to relieve myself. After that the group turned and went back and Allison and I decided to do a hill that usually kills us. We ended up making that hill our bitch and had a great run!
With my laptop on the fritz, I can’t upload it onto my computer and paste my pace. We decided to do a long run today, since we didn’t end up doing it yesterday. I wasn’t feeling very confident at all, felt extremely sluggish before and the start of the run. Ended up pumping out a really great run though. The weather was so much better than it has been which made the hills easier than I’ve felt them in a while.
I pushed really hard for the first mile because it was a slight downhill and I figured I would try and make up for how crappy the last 2 uphill miles would be.
The course was not fun at all and they added 3 smaller hills in it without letting anyone know, just so they could make the distance.
I started dying on the turn around and I kept looking at my watch, just seeing my PR fade from my grasp as my overall pace was moving up.
As I was nearing the end of the race, I could see the clock and I was trying my hardest to get moving so I could get my PR.
I finished with a time of 22:35, and as soon as I was finished I felt defeated because I thought my PR was 22:34.
Turns out my PR is actually 22:44, so I now have a PR set at 22:35. Go me!
Allison wasn’t feeling well, but she ended up placing 3rd in her age group!
We had a couple people from the running club running and one of them placed 3rd, but they were so unorganized they gave his medal to the fourth place person. When I confronted them about it, they pretty much shrugged it off by saying that if the guy who took the medal wasn’t there, they didn’t care.
Anyway, one more race in two weeks. Then the race of a lifetime the week after!
Post race!
Four members of the Dubuque Running Club :p
Snaking past these two people to finish MS before them.
I think I forgot to mention that Allison and I are actually creating a running club/group in Dubuque. Today marked the first day that we did it and we actually had 6 people show up, which is awesome.
Anyway, four of us did a tempo run. Almost got hit by an old lady driving, that was pretty fun. Felt like vomitting a couple times in the last mile for our tempo, but I pushed through. The average time for the tempo actually ended up being 7:36, which is the same pace as the tempo was last week on the trail. Anyway felt pretty solid regardless.
Hopefully we can get this group up and, wait for it, running!

Did our long run today cus we have stuff planned for later this week. We hit the run around 6:30 but the heat didn’t subside until after we were running, so I crashed hard. Between not being hydrated enough and not having enough energy, I wasn’t feeling the best.
The guy I decided to pass while doing mile 3 finished 20 seconds behind me, which I’m pretty happy about because I was struggling to get ahead of him.
33/153 overall, I’ll take it.

There are so many different ways to dissect this race. If it goes by my average pace, my time for 3.1 would actually have been 22:32. But since my watch says 22:46, I was 3 seconds off from making a new PR for 5k. I did crush my previous course time on it, which was 23:34, so I’m happy with that, I wish I would have got that extra bit.
Felt like I couldn’t breath the last mile, trees and such, but overall it put me where I wanted to be. And with another 5k in 2 weeks, I’m interested to see how that is since it won’t be on a trail.
